The choice of ceiling plinth for the interior

Ceiling plinth in the interior helps to make the final touch in the design of the room. The range of this element of finishing is very wide, the main thing is to choose the correct model in width and style.

Why use ceiling baguettes?

Ceiling plinth can be found under other names - baguette, frieze or fillet. Its primary purpose is obvious - it transforms the perimeter of the ceiling, putting a logical point in the interior. The second equally important purpose of the ceiling plinth is to hide the unevenness of the junction of the walls and the ceiling. Installation of the baguette is not particularly difficult, in addition, it fits absolutely any type of ceiling.

The choice of plinth material

Materials of which manufacturers make ceiling plinth:

  • Styrofoam;
  • polyurethane;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • plastic;
  • tree.

For suspended ceilings, baseboard models with LEDs are often used.

Polyfoam - cheap and easy

The cheapest, easiest, and easiest to install ceiling plinth is a foam plastic baguette. It is very simple to cut it into the necessary pieces and glue. It has high heat and sound insulation properties. The minus of this material is fragility, it is quite inflexible and sometimes it makes it difficult to finish difficult places. Available in wide and narrow models. Not all types of glue are suitable for mounting a foam frieze, given that some types of glue and solvent may deteriorate.

Polyurethane - flexible and perfect

Polyurethane plinth is the only ideally flexible option - it bends as you please. This property makes it possible to mount it on the surface of rounded shapes. It is the polyurethane baguette that most successfully imitates modeling and complex patterns. It does not turn yellow from time to time, it can be washed and it is very durable. Polyurethane can be painted with any kind of paint, including oil. To get a beautiful colored plinth it is best to use water-based paint with the addition of the right amount of pigment. Thus, it is very easy to freshen up the interior.

The minus of polyurethane baseboards is heavy, which makes them difficult to install, especially if it is wide. From this, baguettes can eventually peel off from their own weight.

Polyurethane foam - easier and more pliable

Relatively new product, lighter both in weight and in installation ceiling plinth made of polyurethane foam. It is more affordable than polyurethane and is capable of hiding even difficult problem areas where there is a serious curvature.

Plastic - Designer Material

For the flight of a designer fantasy, plastic skirting is more suitable than others. It just cuts and creates perfect joints. To work with it, you need to be able to cut it off correctly and know the specifics of installation.

It is durable, easy to clean and can be repeatedly painted in different colors.

Wooden - originality and comfort

Now you will not surprise anyone with an elegant white frieze, but wooden panels can create an original interior. Its distinctive feature - the contrast due to the use of rich stains. Usually, pine is used for its manufacture, then it is additionally veneered with beautiful wood species. More expensive models are made of oak, maple and other noble breeds.

Saturated wood shades will help to interestingly outline the perimeter of the ceiling in classical and English style, introducing solidity and aristocracy. It is also suitable if you arrange the interior in the style of Provence, adding romance, originality and quality.

Flexibility of such a baguette is no different, but it has a bonus - some models have grooves for wiring. Thus, you can hide the wires or arrange an interesting backlight.

How to choose the right plinth

When choosing a plinth, keep in mind that they can both visually and physically change the size of the room.

There are certain laws:

  • for small apartments modest and rather narrow baguettes are suitable. Imitation of stucco can and is beautiful, but will create a tasteless heaped appearance;
  • larger rooms can be decorated with wider friezes, which will add solidity to the interior;
  • high ceilings in large rooms require the use of wide, massive and multi-level models. Too small friezes just get lost in such a room;
  • rich interior in the Rococo and Baroque style make out complex models of plinth with modeling. In the finished form, it practically does not differ from the present.

On sale you can find colored versions of the plinth, imitating wood and with a printed pattern. Colored plinth copes with the zoning of the room and significantly changes the perception of space, balancing it.

Design masters are advised to paint the baseboard in white or to match the ceiling. Paint conceals a small defect, fixing and connection defects. If you paint a wide baguette in the color of the walls, you can visually increase the height of the walls.
